Easy Steps to Install Windows 11 from a Bootable USB Drive with Rufus
Windows 11 is the latest operating system from Microsoft, and installing it on your computer can be a bit tricky. Fortunately, Rufus, a popular tool for creating bootable USB drives, makes this process easy and safe. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to install Windows 11 directly from an ISO image using Rufus:
Requirements:
- Rufus software (available for Windows 10 and later)
- A Windows 11 ISO file
- A blank USB drive with at least 4GB of free space
Step 1: Prepare Your USB Drive
Before you start, make sure your USB drive is clean and free of any data. Remove any existing partitions on the drive if you have them. You can do this by using Disk Management (Press «Win + R», type diskmgmt.msc
, and select the drive from the list).
Step 2: Open Rufus
Launch Rufus from your computer’s Start menu or search for it in the search bar, then open it.
Step 3: Select Your USB Drive as the Boot Device
In Rufus, select the blank USB drive you prepared earlier as the boot device. This is where Windows 11 will boot from.
Step 4: Choose a Boot Mode
You have two boot modes to choose from:
- Boot in Normal Mode: This mode boots Windows normally and allows for easy installation.
- Safe Mode: This mode disables all unnecessary services and files, which can be helpful if you’re unsure about installing Windows on your computer.
Step 5: Choose the Boot Options
In Safe Mode, select «Start» > «Advanced boot options». In Normal Mode, skip this step.
Step 6: Write the ISO File to the USB Drive
Click the «Write» button to start writing the Windows 11 ISO file to your USB drive. Be aware that the process may take around 30-60 minutes, depending on the speed of your internet connection and the size of the ISO file.
Step 7: Wait for Installation
Once the write operation is complete, you’ll see a progress bar. This indicates that Windows 11 is being installed on your computer.
Step 8: Boot from the USB Drive
To boot from the USB drive, restart your computer and enter the BIOS settings by pressing the designated key (usually F2, F12, or Del). Save the changes and proceed to the next step.
Step 9: Install Windows 11
In the BIOS settings, set the USB drive as the first boot device. Save and exit the BIOS settings. Your computer should now boot from the USB drive, and you’ll see a Microsoft logo. You’re ready to install Windows 11!
Tips and Precautions
- Make sure your internet connection is stable during the installation process.
- If you encounter any issues, restart your computer and try again.
- Be patient, as installing Windows 11 can take some time.
With these easy steps, you should be able to successfully install Windows 11 from a bootable USB drive with Rufus. Happy upgrading!
